Er is veel onderzoek gedaan naar de veiligheid en haalbaarheid van OS tijdens gynaecologische operaties. Het is bewezen dat OS tijdens gynaecologische operaties veilig is, zonder toename van chirurgische complicaties en dat de operatietijd slechts met enkele minuten toeneemt door de toevoeging van OS. (1-5) Inmiddels wordt OS in meerdere richtlijnen, onder andere in Nederland, aanbevolen. (6)
